When emissions rules ended the big 400 V8, Pontiac kept the Trans Am alive with a turbocharger, and for 1980 it really was the world’s only turbocharged V-8. The Turbo Trans Am lasted just two years, but it paced the 1980 Indy 500 and starred in black and gold in Smokey and the Bandit II.
